On 28 March 2025, at approximately 12:50, a 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Sagaing, Mandalay, Naypitaw, and Shan state. The epicenter was recorded at Sagaing with a depth of 10km. The tremor was felt across Thailand, Bangladesh, China, and Laos, causing widespread damage to infrastructure and buildings.

On Friday 4 April, 2025, MSF’s mental health team started carrying out Psychological First Aid (PFA) activities at the 300 Bedded Teaching Hospital and Ashoka Mobile Clinic in Mandalay, reaching patients in surgical, orthopedic, and trauma wards, as well as people gathered in temporary shelters. These activities were conducted by mental health staff, psychosocial support workers, and medical student volunteers.

In addition, MSF launched on 5 April 2025 a mobile clinic in Mandalay, providing medical care services in several places where people have found shelter, including the Ashoka Monastery, with a team including two doctors, one nurse, and a gynecologist. On its first day, the clinic conducted 24 consultations, addressing primary healthcare needs, non-communicable diseases (NCDs), and a few trauma cases.
