Marib, located in northeast on the edge of large deserts, is one of the most active frontlines in Yemen. The oil and gas rich area is located at a crossroads between the southern and northern regions, and is considered a key strategic location to control for the warring parties. Marib has seen multiple episodes of violent attacks, mass causalities and displacements in 2021. More than 10,000 families have been displaced in or to Marib Governorate in 2021 due to hostilities. Since September 2021, the area has been experiencing a new wave of violence. This has caused significant displacement of people, resulting in arrival of internally displaced people (IDPs) in Marib city and its surroundings. Marib’s nearly 150 formal or informal camps are a temporary home to Yemenis displaced from their homes by the conflict, African migrants and marginalized communities. The population staying in camps generally lack basis facilities of shelter, sanitation, drinking water and healthcare. MSF provides primary healthcare services through mobile clinics at eight different locations and one primary healthcare centre.
