Since December 2017, violence has tens of thousands of people from their home in the province of Ituri, in the north-east of the Democratic Republic of Congo. They have sought shelter in host families or have settled in informal camps and settlements. According to OCHA, repeated attacks on civilians have caused the displacement of more than 300,000 people since early June 2019.

Since the beginning of this crisis, the large majority of displaced have not received even the most basic humanitarian assistance and are living extremely precarious conditions. Since October 2018, 3 successive MSF surveys have revealed mortality rates far above the emergency thresholds among the displaced population of the Djugu and Mahagi territories. The surveys also reported acute severe malnutrition rates above emergency thresholds for children under the age of five. Eighteen months after the start of these mass displacements, the spontaneous sites in which many displaced families have settled are still extremely precarious without sufficient access to clean water, health care, shelters.



This is a quadruple crisis: In addition to the displacement, an out of control measles epidemic continues to spread, malaria is spiking and the an Ebola epidemic is still not under control with new cases appearing every day.
