Since the beginning of 2019, the outbreak of violence in the North Centre and Sahel regions of Burkina Faso has caused dozens of deaths and the internal displacement of thousands of people (more than 8,000 officially registered by the local authorities). They need emergency help. Many communities have fled to the closest villages : Foubé, Barsalogho, Arbinda, Kelbo and Déou. These are the largest displacements of populations to have occurred in Burkina Faso’s recent history.

A high number of displaced people have left their homes suddenly, being unable to carry anything with them. A camp has been set up in Barsalogho to shelter more than 9,00 people in rudimentary tents. Another camp is being set up in Foubé, where around 8,000 people have been hosted not only in the camp but also by local communities.

MSF has sent emergency teams in the Centre North region to support the local response in both Foubé and Barsalogho camps. However, the needs remain significant and more than 3,000 displaced people in the other sites need help. Beyond its support in terms of medical consultations and providing some medicines, MSF is supporting measles vaccination campaigns in both sites, where the epidemic risk is high due to the living conditions, as people live very close to each other.
