BROLL RE-BUILDING LIFE IN JALAWLA NORTHERN

Jalawla is a town in Diyala Governorate, northern Iraq. In 2013 it had an estimated population of some 80,000 people.

From August to November 2014 the city was mostly under the control of what’s called the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. On 23 November 2014, the Kurdish Peshmerga recaptured the whole city. The town was partially destroyed and most of its inhabitants became IDP’s.

In late 2015, some of the population of Jalalwa started to move back to rebuild their home town.

In Diyala governorate MSF has been working in camps around Khanaqin, and in towns such as Jalawla and Saadiya, by providing a mix of health promotion, mental health, reproductive health and primary health care, community outreach and psycho-social educational services and water and sanitation projects.
