MSF opens a new project in the Greater Pibor Administrative Area

As of 7th of June,2021, MSF opened activities in Maruwa payam which usually hosts 11 villages in the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA). The area is estimated to be home to 200,000 inhabitants further divided into several Payams (Gugu, Maruwa, Labarad, Kassangor, Mewun and Churi) with a specific population of between 20,000 to 50,000 residents. Knowing that health care needs in the Greater Pibor Administrative Area remain under-addressed, MSF carried out an evaluation in the eastern side of GPAA. MSF aims to remain in GPAA to provide health care services to an under-served population, changing its operational approach to an agile, effective and responsive setup, aiming to focus on outreach activities. This approach moves away for the often focus on secondary health care in an hospital to a strengthened outreach response. Emergency Response in GPAA will remain an integrated part of the operational plan. With a capacity of 4 observation beds, the primary health facility which holds a triage, waiting area, consultation and observation areas will provide consultations for the population, immunization and in the coming months we will support women with deliveries, ANC and PNC, working with the traditional births attendants.
