In 2016, due to escalating violence in Greater Mundri, MSF witnessed an acute and emergent need for humanitarian and medical intervention. The project started out as an emergency intervention to provide basic healthcare to displaced and conflict affected populations. As the context progressively changed, MSF kept adapting its response – later evolving to primary healthcare project – in order to always prioritise the needs of communities with limited access to healthcare.

Between 2016-2022, MSF treated over 300,000 patients.

The situation in Greater Mundri has now stabilised, and the South Sudan Ministry of Health and other supporting health organisations are now present in the area. Due to this, MSF made the decision to exit Greater Mundri and hand over the healthcare facilities and activities to the Ministry of Health in May 2022.
