MSF started its activities in Nigeria in July 2016 in response to the mass influx of IDPs in Borno State. MSF worked on two main projects (Ngala and Rann) and did surveillance or seasonal medical activities in Banki. MSF did primary and secondary health care, community-based interventions, and WASH support activities in the above-mentioned locations.
Due to continuous security incidents in Rann, the project was temporarily halted in January 2019. After many considerations, MSF-OCG Nigeria mission open a project in Bauchi state.
The Bauchi project commenced activities in July 2022 in the former Ganjuwa General Hospital location with a 250-bed capacity. The facility was abandoned after the construction and was never used by the MoH. We also support 3 ATFC around Ganjuwa (Kafin Madaki, Kafin Liman, and Miya). MSF’s team gives daily primary and secondary health care to children under 15 years old (including neonatal and acute malnutrition cases). From January to June 2023, our teams recorded 3 619 malaria cases and treated 10 657 malnourished children.
Since 2022, MSF conducted two emergency interventions in Bauchi State (nutrition and Lassa Fever) and in Plateau state (IDPs).
Added to these interventions, MSF closely monitors needs and gaps in Bauchi state and Plateau and Nassarawa states.
