MSF started its operations in response tothe Syrian refugee’scrisis Jordanin September 2013,opening an emergency surgicalhospital in Ramtha to treat war-wounded patients crossing the borders from southern Syria. MSF closed itssurgical program when the borders between the two countries has sealed and due to the reduced numbers of patients crossing the border. Sincelate 2014, after an assessment of the needs of Syrian refugees in Jordan, MSF has been providingchronic diseases services free of charge in Irbid Governorate forSyrian refugeesas well as forvulnerable Jordanians.At the end of 2019, after refocusing its prioritiesand because of the emergency nature of the organization, MSF decided to begin planning a handover of its chronic diseases project in Irbid, and to officially announce the closure of its mission in Jordan.COVID_19 pandemic delayed MSF closure plans forthe project/mission. After a thoughtful consideration and talks will all relevant actors, MSF announced the closure of its projects in Jordan by the end of 2021-beginning 2022. As part of mission’s closure, MSF has advocated for the international donor community and other organizations to become more directly involved in providing this care, highlighting the needs of Syrian refugees and vulnerable Jordanians as well as the possibility of treating chronic diseases patients with a new approach.
