Football for all: A small world cup in the outskirts of Mexico City

Over the past year, MSF activities in Mexico City have shifted to respond to a changing reality: populations in mobility are no longer only in transit but increasingly settling in urban areas alongside vulnerable local communities. In this context, access to healthcare remains a shared barrier affecting both groups, particularly in the outskirts of the city where access to mental health services, continuity of care and community support networks remain limited.

This shift requires adapting MSF’s approach beyond clinical care to include community-based strategies that foster trust, integration, and access to information. A little world cup, the MSF mini world-cup “Football for all” or “Fut para el mundo”, emerges as a response to this need: a community initiative that uses football as an entry point to create safe spaces where local populations, people in mobility and individuals in situations of vulnerability can meet on equal terms.
