Since 2016, violence between government forces and secessionist non-state armed groups has displaced more than half a million people in the North-West and South-West Regions of Cameroon. Severe insecurity and restrictions on movement are preventing many people from accessing healthcare, food, water, markets and schools, leaving people in dire need of humanitarian assistance.

MSF is responding to the increased medical needs of displaced populations affected by violence by strengthening the referral and emergency systems of the health system and developing the capacity of its medical staff. The main objective is to reach populations with more difficult access to health care, in areas severely affected by the violence and where there are significant numbers of displaced people. MSF is training community health works to treat and refer commonly observed conditions such as malaria; is running a free medicalised ambulance service to refer patients to specialised care; covering the costs and supporting the case management of emergency cases; and supporting emergency preparedness in anticipation of continued violence.
