Almost one year after the beginning of the conflict in Sudan, more than 10.07 people have been displaced-including 9 million internally displaced. The humanitarian situation in Darfur, already extremely concerning before the conflict, further worsened since the onset of the new hostilities: a huge displacement crisis, widespread malnutrition, coupled with more than 70 per cent of health facilities in conflict-affected areas which are no longer functional, leave two thirds of Darfur population with no access to health care..

Since January 2024, MSF international teams have been able to access again Nyala, which remains still a conflict-torn area, but where teams have started to respond to the needs of the local population who suffered through months of some of the fiercest battles and air bombardments of the conflict in Sudan. Thousands of IDPs scattered across multiple camps around the city and in the surroundings joined the already thousands of people displaced by the Darfur conflict that started over 20 years ago. We have also scaled up existing activities in South Jabel Marra, where we provide primary and secondary care to communities living in hard-to-reach localities, cut off from medical care provision.
