More than three years of sustained conflict and violence against civilians have taken a huge toll on the people of South Sudan. Over 3 million people have been displaced internally or fled the country and hundreds of thousands have been unable to access medical or humanitarian assistance.
The counties of Mayendit and Leer along with the surrounding areas has been severely affected by conflict for the past 3 years. The population has been repetitively displaced from their home living for long periods in the bush and is struggling every day to have access to basic services, including food, water and healthcare. Since August 2016, MSF has been providing primary healthcare to the population in the counties of Leer, and Mayendit through a network of local community health workers. In January 2017, they encountered very high levels of malnutrition in Northern Mayendit, in the localities of Dabluad and Mirniya.
