The humanitarian situation in Darfur, already extremely concerning before the conflict, has further deteriorated since the onset of hostilities. After heavy fighting in October 2023, the city of Nyala was destroyed within a couple of weeks. The current support is in selected departments in two hospitals in Nyala and one primary health care center in the Bilel camp for internally displaced people, refugees, and the host community. In the Jebel Marra mountains, MSF has also continued to provide primary health care to people living in isolated and hard-to-reach locations. The situation in South Darfur remains catastrophic, with extremely limited access to healthcare, widespread food insecurity, a collapsed education system for children, and non-functioning infrastructure (water networks, electricity, reliable communication means). There are very few organizations responding locally with extremely limited resources in terms of staff and supplies.
