During the night of 4 November, Russian military forces carried out strikes on Synelnykove district in Dnipropetrovsk region, hitting civilian infrastructure and private homes. Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) supports a hospital close to the frontline in this area, where wounded patients were brought for emergency care.
An MSF team – including an anaesthetist, a nurse and a surgeon – received seven patients with war-related injuries of varying severity, including fractures, missing limbs and trauma to the head and torso. Tragically, one woman died from injuries that proved fatal.
“We worked alongside Ministry of Health doctors, coordinating efforts to help every patient who arrived,” says Snizhana Kudriavtseva, MSF nurse. “Near the frontline, every pair of medical hands is vital. That’s why we are here – to support and strengthen hospital response capacity, which is under immense strain from the influx of war-wounded people.
One of the patients was a five-year-old girl who required a traumatic amputation. It is heartbreaking to see how both adults and children continue to suffer.”
MSF continues to support hospitals close to the frontlines in Dnipropetrovsk and Kherson regions, where the need for emergency medical care following missile and drone attacks remains high. Over the past three months, MSF teams have received 221 patients with war-related injuries in hospitals near the frontline – an increase of 45.4% compared to the previous period.
