Since the war began in 2014, MSF has provided care in eastern Ukraine, and subsequently along much of the frontline. After Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022, teams were repeatedly forced to move as the frontline shifted back and forth — leaving seven hospitals, over 40 locations where they were running mobile medical clinics, and offices behind. Teams have to be agile, reopening locations when possible, and closing at short notice as active combat approaches again. Of the seven hospitals where MSF had to stop emergency and surgical care, four have been confirmed as totally destroyed: Kostiantynivka, Selydove, Pokrovsk and Pokrovske.
This map marks those locations. However, it is not exhaustive in relation to MSF projects and does not represent the full scale: according to the WHO, over 2,800 health facilities nationwide have been damaged or destroyed, and medical staff near the frontline are increasingly scarce. MSF teams continue to support hospitals and primary healthcare as close to frontline areas as possible.
