In just two weeks, southern Madagascar has been hit by two consecutive extreme weather events., Honde and Jude, impacting thousands of people and causing significant material damage. The country is currently in the midst of its cyclone season (November–April) and remains vulnerable to further extreme weather events.
Our teams have been on the ground in Atsimo-Andrefana, one of the five regions affected by these storms. Through mobile clinics, we have provided more than 2,800 medical consultations over four weeks in seven of the hardest-hit communities. We have also distributed hygiene kits and food supplies to nearly 1,300 households. Despite challenges in reaching the most remote areas, our response efforts continue.
Madagascar is among the countries most exposed to the effects of climate change. Each year, from November to April, the cyclone season further deepens the vulnerability of rural populations. Crop destruction threatens livelihoods, exacerbating malnutrition and increasing the risk of diseases such as malaria.
