The war in Ukraine has continued since 2014 and escalated on February 24, 2022, when Russian forces began a full-scale invasion of the country. As of 2026, the UN Human Rights Office had verified the deaths of at least 15,578 civilians and injuries to at least 43,352 more.

Since the beginning of the invasion, drones have played a significant role in the war, with their use increasing over the past two years. Russian forces use long-range drones to destroy critical Ukrainian infrastructure during massive attacks, launching hundreds of drones per day that can strike targets thousands of kilometers from the front lines. Meanwhile, short-range drones pose the greatest threat to residents of frontline areas. Attacks using FPV (first person view) drones, which are small, maneuverable, explosive-laden unmanned aerial vehicles controlled by an operator in real time, are particularly common. This means the operator sees the target being attacked, including cars, people going about their daily lives on the streets, and humanitarian aid distribution sites. During these attacks, civilians are not accidental victims; their lives are deliberately endangered.

Healthcare facilities and medical workers in Ukraine are also not spared. Some sources indicate that there have been over 2,900 Russian attacks on medical facilities as of April 2026. Disruptions to electricity, heating, and water supplies resulting from massive attacks also significantly impact the functioning of hospitals and clinics, forcing them to adapt to these conditions. MSF continues to support frontline hospitals by working in emergency departments and operating rooms. Our medical teams, consisting of surgeons, anesthesiologists, paramedics, and nurses, provide care to people wounded in drone attacks.

Through this initiative, we are sharing three video clips that depict the daily reality experienced by Ukraine's population: streets and roads covered in anti-drone nets, generators humming, and water supplies in hospitals. The videos also show the various injuries sustained by our patients during drone attacks.
