From bombed-out ghost towns to overcrowded shelters: displacement surges in Ukraine

The frontline in Ukraine continues to shift, with Russian forces advancing deeper into the country, reaching the Dnipropetrovsk region in the south-east. Roads used for the evacuation of people are being heavily targeted by drones, making it extremely dangerous and logistically complicated for people to flee. In villages and towns close to the frontline, people are left with little or no access to basic services such as pharmacies, hospitals, or primary healthcare. Living under constant bombardment without essential services forces people to flee as towns are reduced to rubble. With no respite in the war, people have fewer and fewer choices, and the number of people being killed, wounded and displaced, has increased dramatically.
