On 3 March 2026, an attack by armed groups, which resulted in dozens of deaths and hundreds of abductions, in Ngoshe, Gwoza, was followed by widespread displacement, forcing over 5,000 persons of the Ngoshe population to flee. The displaced population sought refuge in Pulka, Gwoza LGA, about 15km from Ngoshe. Most of them arrived with little to no belongings.

The displaced persons are taking shelter in inadequate conditions, including in a primary school compound, open areas along the streets and within host communities. Living conditions are extremely poor, with critical gaps in access to food, safe drinking water, sanitation and essential non-food items. Access to safe water is insufficient and sanitation facilities are extremely limited, increasing the risk of disease outbreaks, while protection concerns - including family separation and lack of adequate shelter - remain high. In response, MSF has launched four-week activities that started on 10 April 2026 to support over 5,000 displaced persons.
