Surge in COVID-19 cases adds new challenges to the humanitarian response in north-west Syria

As the number of COVID-19 cases is rapidly increasing in northwest Syria, MSF is contributing to prevention of COVID-19, as well as the identification and treatment of patients with mild symptoms. As part of its prevention activities, since April 2020, MSF has been distributing hygiene kits to displaced people living in camps in northwest Syria. So far, the teams have distributed more than 63,000 hygiene kits, including items such as soap and detergents, to more than 26,000 displaced families in several camps in Idlib governorate and North Aleppo. MSF’s health educators also conduct awareness sessions about the virus, its ways of transmissions and ways of prevention, to the people queuing to receive the kits during the distributions. MSF teams are working in various health facilities as well, to support with the identification and treatment of patients who suffer from COVID-19 or have other medical needs.
