Impact of escalations on medical activities and access to healthcare in Gaza

From 9-14 May 2023, Israeli bombardments in the Gaza Strip killed 33 people including women and children and wounded 147.
For Gazans, these ‘escalations’ have become inevitable and inescapable.
During situations like this, medical providers, including MSF, activate emergency protocols. This is how medical care is affected during escalations. On the 12th of May, Dr Sohaib Safi explained the implications for MSF’s medical facilities, and the limitations on access to healthcare for patients. While this escalation ended on the 14th, the cycle of violence has become so familiar for people in Gaza that medical facilities have developed specific emergency protocols that can be implemented immediately.
