Supporting the care of patients in Vargas Hospital (Caracas)

MSF has been supporting the care received by patients of the Vargas hospital since June 2019. MSF objective in the hospital is the improvement of critical emergency areas, trauma shock, biosecurity, infection prevention and control, post-surgical care and pediatrics. It has also made contributions of medicines and supplies, biomedical equipment, water and sanitation and maintains technical advice, and logistical support, which allow an improvement in the quality of medical care.
The mechanical ventilators needed in the ICU were recently repaired by MSF and therefore the capacity of the unit expanded. One of the patients in urgent need was Roiber, an 11 year old who was shot in the head (violence is still pervasive in many neighborhoods in the capital). Thanks to the ventilators, Roiber’s brain was able to rest and recover properly.
