A Day in the Life of an MSF Counsellor in Gaza

MSF first started working in Gaza in 1989, and has been present continuously since 2000. There we are running five clinics, two inpatient departments and three surgical teams that offer care to those suffering from trauma and burns. The vast majority of our trauma patients are people who have been shot by the Israeli army during protests – MSF has treated 4,600 of the more than 7,600 people shot since March 30th 2018. As well as looking after their physical needs we offer psychosocial support in our clinics and hospitals to take care of any emotional or social distress they might have, and offer support to them and their families to complete their treatment effectively. If people have serious mental health issues then MSF refers them to the Ministry of Health for other treatments.
