Every day our staff on the Greek islands hear dramatic stories of despair and frustration from men, women and children trapped there as a consequence of the EU Turkey deal.
Entire families who escaped war, violence, extreme poverty and desperation in search of safety and better conditions in Europe and that found themselves trapped on the Greek islands, often in awful living conditions and with very unclear understanding of what will happen to them.
We have collected some testimonies and stories to show that beyond the figures and the narrative of success of the European leaders, there are normal mothers and fathers, children, brothers and sisters, with their stories of hope and despair and with incredible resilience. They should not pay with their health and their dignity the cost of these inhumane policies.
We also want to show the dilemma and the frustration of our staff that is confronted every day with diseases and symptoms that are created by the same inhumane policies. Every day our staff has to treat medical and mental health scars knowing that they will have to send people to live in the same conditions that contribute to deteriorate their health status. This is a vicious circle that only more humane and dignified policies could break.
