Thousands of people looking for safety from countries like Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq, Sudan, Congo, etc. continue to risk their lives to reach Europe.
Those who try to arrive via Turkey and the Aegean Sea have been trapped for an indefinite period of time in limbo islands in Greece as part of the EU/Turkey deal and its deterrence and containment approach.
In Lesvos, there are currently more than 6,000 people in a camp made for max 2000 people, often living in awful conditions and in arbitrary administrative situations that have a further dramatic impact on their health and in particular their mental health;
As MSF, we see every day people suffering the consequence of this policy of containment, with men, women and children that every day come to our clinic in search of psychological support.
With increased media and public opinion fatigue, there is a sort of normalization of this suffering and a crisis of empathy towards these families. Moreover, we see attacks and dehumanization of these people for political purposes.
