Tamim's testimony:
"After two years that the EU-Turkey deal is in force, European leaders still believe that they will prevent more people from trying to reach safety in Europe, by punishing those who actually manage to cross the borders, keeping them in awful living conditions like in the camp in Moria. Well, the deal isn't working, as the authorities are preaching. People keep coming every single day; vulnerable people in need of special protection. Instead, they are stuck living in Moria camp. Who can explain the reason for this?

The other day, a Syrian woman waiting with her three children to see a doctor, told me that she feels mentally extremely tired from what she had been through, and depressed because she doesn’t have a clue of what is going to happen to her family; not even tomorrow. ‘My children keep asking me when we will leave from here and I don't have an answer,’ she told me. “We meet people every single day in the MSF clinic next to the camp, who wish that they had died by a bomb back home instead of dying every day here. Can you imagine this?

Few days ago, I met another a 42-year old Syrian man who was waiting with his two sons for the doctor at the MSF clinic next to Moria camp told me that it took him and his family more than 40 days to reach Lesvos after leaving Syria. Before finally crossing the Aegean Sea to reach Lesvos, the family had tried to cross the land borders; however, in their way to the Evros River, they were stopped and beaten by a group of people; his wife who was 3 months pregnant had a miscarriage. The unknown people stole all their money and took the boat with them. This guy had in his body fragments from the aircraft that bombed his home, which were causing to him a certain disability. He kept repeating that he wants to live in dignity with his family; that he wants them to be treated as human beings”.
