MSF has been present in the Balkans for the last 4 years responding to the needs of populations on the move along the migratory routes. Recently, the situation in Bosnia has again deteriorated, with increasing numbers of people living outside official centres and camps for prolonged periods, and with increasing reports of border violence and people being abandoned in the middle of nowhere with very limited access to assistance. To respond to the emerging needs, on 7 August 2019 MSF relaunched its activities in Velika Kladusa. An MSF clinic is located inside the local health centre in Velika Kladusa to provide basic healthcare and assistance, in collaboration with the MoH. This includes primary healthcare, health promotion activities, assistance to victims of violence including sexual violence, and referrals. MSF also provides water and sanitation services (including laundry and medical showers) in an attempt to reduce skin diseases, which seems to be one of the main medical conditions amongst migrants and asylum seekers in the Velika Kladusa area. Since end of October MSF provides also medical and mental health services to the local medical centre near Vucjack camp were about 800 -1000 people live under inhumane conditions. Vucjak camp doesn’t meet any humanitarian standars and the people living there, have to sleep in tents and wash themselves with cold water despite the very low temperatures while the camp is surrounded by landmines.
