The Eastlands program in Kenya

The Eastlands program has a multi-drug resistant (MDR) TB program that provides free treatment to patients diagnosed with the disease. As of 2015 the clinic had screened 3784. 29 patients are currently being treated of drug resistant TB. Three are XDR TB patients with one failing their treatment. One of the three XDR TB patients is Elizabeth Wangeci who completed her treatment May 06, 2016.
MSF is also working in partnership with In Health (PIH), Interactive Research and Development (IRD) with support from UNITAID in the “end TB project” which aims at the provision of access of two new anti-TB drugs (Bedaquiline and Delamanid) by 2019 for 2,600 in 16 countries. In Kenya, in close collaboration with the TB division of the ministry of health, 3 patients infected with ultra-resistant tuberculosis (UDR – resistant to all 2nd line drugs) are presently under Bedaquiline under compassionate use.
