In Tajikistan’s capital, the Dushanbe project team has started treating the first patients on Delamanid, one of the first new TB medicines in over 50 years. This follows several months of preparations and negotiations with the ministry of health and its counterparts. After seeing a presentation by MSF at the first MSF TB Symposium for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, that detailed the successful use of Delamanid to treat multi-drug resistant and extreme-drug resistant TB, the ministry of health of Tajikistan allowed MSF to use Delamanid, bringing it into the country through a humanitarian import waiver. The importation builds on the success of last year, as MSF was one of the first organisations in Tajikistan to bring Bedaquiline into the country.
