IDPs or Internally Displaced People do not constitute a distinct legal category and therefore do not benefit from any specific protection under international law. In principle they are still under the protection of their national laws, but the state itself may be the source of their displacement.

The number of IDPs in the MENA region and across the globe represent a pressing medical concern for MSF.
