Refugees with limited resources face several barriers to access healthcare in Lebanon, because health care provision in Lebanon is fragmented and health care services are costly.
For a significant number of refugees the cost of consultations, laboratory tests, transport and medication, as well as lack of valid documentation, remain a barrier contributing to delaying or denying their access to healthcare.
MSF is providing free healthcare for refugees and vulnerable communities by investing in specific health sectors such as treating non-communicable diseases care and offering mental healthcare and maternity services. MSF has also invested in providing secondary- and tertiary-level care including paediatric intensive care, thalassemia care and general elective surgeries. But many of our patients need additional medical services that we don’t provide, as they are not part or the specific domains of activities of MSF’s in Lebanon, and we witness on a daily basis refugees struggling to access the services they need. Even with the support of our social workers, who try to link patients with possible providers, “access to healthcare is still a hard journey for refugees in Lebanon”.
On this world refugee day, we would like to highlight the challenges refugees face in accessing healthcare in Lebanon by telling the stories of three of our patients who are “wishing for good health”.


يواجه اللاجئون الذين تعتبر مواردهم الماليّة محدودة تحديات عدّة تحول دون وصولهم إلى الرعاية الطبية اللازمة في لبنان، حيث يعتبر توفير خدمات الرعاية الصحّية مجزّأ تشارك به جهات عدّة، كما تعتبر خدمات الرعاية الصحيّة مكلفة. بالنسبة لعديد من اللاجئين، لا تزال تكلفة الاستشارات والفحوصات المخبرية والأدوية، بالإضافة إلى كلفة وسائل النقل، وعدم توفّر الأوراق القانونيّة الصالحة، يشكلون عوائقًا تساهم في تأخير حصولهم على الرعاية الطبية أو حرمانهم منها.
وتقدّم منظمة أطباء بلا حدود الرعاية الطبية المجانية للاجئين والمجتمعات الأكثر حاجة في لبنان من خلال التركيز على مجالات صحية محدّدة كخدمات رعاية الأمراض المزمنة وخدمات الصحة النفسية وخدمات الصحة الإنجابية والولادات. كما استثمرت المنظمة في مجالات جديدة من الرعاية المتخصصة، بما في ذلك العناية المركزة للأطفال ورعاية التلاسيميا والعمليات الجراحية العامة غير الطارئة.
لكنّ العديد من مرضانا يحتاجون إلى خدمات طبية إضافية لا نقدمها، ونشهد يوميًا على معاناة اللاجئين الذين يكافحون في سبيل الوصول إلى الخدمات التي يحتاجونها. ورغم الدعم الذي يقدّمه العاملين الاجتماعيين في المنظمة، من خلال ربط المرضى بمقدمي الخدمات المحتملين، لا يزال الوصول إلى الرعاية الطبية مُهمّة صعبة بالنسبة للاجئين في لبنان.
في اليوم العالمي للاجئين، نسلّط الضوء على التّحديات التي يواجهها اللاجئون في الحصول على الرعاية الطبية في لبنان من خلال قصص ثلاثة من مرضانا ممن "أمنيتهم الشفاء."
