On August 7, 2023, the MSF team, with aerial support from Sea Watch, performed a rescue operation for a group of 47 people on an unstable iron boat within the Maltese search and rescue region. Upon arrival, the group shared that three companions had fallen overboard. After a thorough three and a half-hour search, two people were found, and one remains missing. The 49 survivors, reported that they departed from Sfax, Tunisia and endured six days at sea, were in dire condition and shock. They now receive care aboard the Geo Barents, with medical and psychological support.
