BRIDGE WATCH
The MSF team has activated the bridge watch mode since its arrival to the search and rescue zone. A 24/24-hour bridge watch through binoculars is provided to make sure no boats in distress are left missed.
STAFF PREPARATION
The MSF Search and Rescue team is getting prepared to respond to the first rescue of rotation 14. An alert was received on Monday 25 July around 11.30 am through the Alarm Phone, a project operated since 2014 by volunteers from Europe, Tunisia and Morocco, which is committed to the sea rescue of refugees.
RESCUE
Following an alert by the Alarm Phone, the Geo Barents headed full speed towards a wooden boat in distress located in the Maltese Search and Rescue zone. The boat left Libya on Saturday 23 July in the morning and the rescue was conducted on Monday 25 July in the afternoon.
A total of 52 people have been saved, including 35 minors. The youngest one is aged 2-year-old.
