On the night of July 16, 2023, following a rescue mission conducted the previous day at noon, the MSF team accomplished another feat, saving 241 additional people from five distressed boats in the Maltese search and rescue zone. The survivors had fled Tunisia and were found on perilous iron boats and one wooden boat, emphasizing the dangerous conditions they endured while attempting the treacherous sea journey. Our dedicated team is working diligently to provide to the 282 currently on board survivors with the care they need. Among them were 74 women, 72 unaccompanied minors, 1 pregnant woman, and several children. The Italian MRCC played a role in coordinating these five rescue operations.
