IWD-2024 - Cameroon: Women tracing their paths through 40 years of intervention

For 40 years, MSF has been working in Cameroon and has provided humanitarian medical assistance in 8 of the country’s ten regions. Although women represent only 24% of staff in Cameroon, they stand out because of their experience, and they are at the forefront of interventions, in patients care and support teams.

In the Far North region, MSF has been working with the Ministry of Health since 2016 to tackle the consequences of the Lake Chad Crisis. MSF provides pediatric and nutritional treatment, emergency surgery, mental health care, SRH, and health promotion activities in Mora, Kourgui, Kolofata and Amchide.

In 40 years of presence in Cameroon, women of various profiles have been tracing their paths within MSF and have contributed to provide quality care. They share with us the challenges of working as a woman in the humanitarian context and their views of MSF’s presence in Cameroon over the years.
