Difficult access to healthcare for people on the roads around Bambari

Patient access to essential healthcare is an integral part of Médecins Sans Frontières' (MSF) intervention strategy in the Central African Republic, particularly in the Ouaka prefecture. This is a region where the situation is extremely unstable due to insecurity caused by the presence of pockets of resistance from non-state actors and government forces. This has impacted the provision of health services and created fear among the population, who fear for their safety in travelling to health facilities where they can receive quality care.
The ‘axes’ strategy adopted by MSF enables it to move out of the major towns to the outskirts in four directions (on the axes) and deliver a basic healthcare package to local communities. It also enables us to reach more communities that have difficulty accessing medical care. The Kidjigra health centre (in the town of Bambari), which covers a rural part of its area of coverage, and the Ngakobo health centre, 60 km from the town of Bambari, are Ministry of Health facilities supported by MSF as part of this strategy. In addition to these health centres, and still in line with the axes strategy, MSF is also supporting two basic community healthcare sites in Digui and Wogra on the Ngakobo axis.
