Jebel Marra is home to Sudan’s highest peak. This beautiful mountainous region, located in the centre of the Darfur region of Sudan, is known for its volcanic peaks and fertile soil. In this area, communities have been affected by conflict since the early 2000s. Two years of war have exacerbated the already dire humanitarian conditions for people living in remote areas, some of whom have no road access and are cut off from any form of assistance except that provided by MSF.

MSF is running different projects there : in the rocky mountains of North Jebel Marra, lies the small town of Rokero. MSF has been running the local hospital since January 2020 and supports other health facilities in the area. About three hours from Rokero lies Sortoni, a village shaped by decades of violence and displacement, become a blind spot in the current emergency response. MSF is now the only organisation with a permanent presence, running a primary health care centre. In South Darfur, MSF reaches these communities, on foot or by donkey, delivering essential services, in places long cut-off medical support.
