In October 2024, MSF launched a brand new 27-bed hospital in Atmeh, Idlib, which provides specialized care for treating burn injuries mainly caused by the terrible conditions in which people are forced to live in. Teams offer essential and holistic rehabilitation services, including surgery, physiotherapy, mental health, patient education, and ambulatory outpatients services for those affected with life-changing burn injuries.

In a region where access to advanced burn treatment is simply not available, this development brings renewed hope, offering life-saving care to people across northwest Syria.

In 2024, the hospital recorded an increase of 6 per cent of burn-related emergency cases, with 8,340 patients seen compared to 7,853 in 2023.

In March 2025, MSF launched a new 3D-printing programme at the Atmeh Hospital. As the first of its kind in Syria, it offers innovative, accessible and tailored solutions to severe facial burns, such as 3D-printed compressive masks for facial burns, which treat scarring and swelling, and enhance patients' movement and recovery.
