My son is 20 years old. He was at work when I was informed that he had suffered burns due to a fire at his workplace.

They started performing surgeries, and he now undergoes debridement procedures every two days.

In 2024 alone, MSF treated over 8,000 burn-related emergency cases in Atmeh, northwest Syria, mainly caused by domestic accidents due to people's dire living conditions.

Many burn patients fear that the scars will remain. They wonder whether the burn marks will be permanent, especially in visible areas like the face and hands.

One of the biggest challenges we face is applying pressure to facial areas. Using Lycra garments does not provide the necessary pressure on facial scars.

In March 2025, MSF launched a new 3D-printing programme at the Atmeh Hospital, with the support of the MSF Foundation. As the first of its kind in Syria, it offers innovative, accessible and tailored solutions to severe facial burns., such as compression masks, made from 3D molds.

Now, with the introduction of 3D printing technology in Syria,
we can achieve the best possible results in treating facial scars.
