Since the new US Administration launched a series of executive orders against migration and to seal the border with Mexico on 20 January 2025, millions of people in the United States and across Latin America are in a limbo and live with uncertainty. While some initial deportations from the US to other countries in the region have been reported, for now some of the most impacted people are those migrants and asylum seekers who remain trapped in Mexico, even after having obtained many of them appointments to request asylum with the already extinct CBP One application. In parallel, groups of migrants continue to move together in caravans in southern Mexico calling for attention and seeking protection from the violence perpetrated by various armed actors. MSF teams are responding to the changing context and preparing for different scenarios.
