Some Rohingya children left the refugee camps of Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, when they were just 13 or 16 years old. Some travelled alone. Some were separated from their families. Some crossed the sea hungry, afraid, and unsure if they would survive.

Rohingya people were stripped of citizenship in Myanmar and fled brutal violence and persecution. In Bangladesh, many continued to face an uncertain future, with limited access to safety, education and opportunities. For some girls, the choices can be even more restricted, shaped by poverty, dowry expectations and early marriage.

For the young people in this video, reaching Indonesia did not mean the end of uncertainty. Many are still waiting for protection, education and a chance to rebuild their lives.

They survived the journey. But survival is only the beginning.

Rohingya children need protection, safety and a chance at a better life. A generation should not grow up waiting for the world to look their way.
