Treating pediatric TB in Tajikistan

MSF, in cooperation with the Tajikistan Ministry of Health and Social Protection, opened in 2011 special programme focused on diagnosis and treatment of children suffering from tuberculosis.
Where possible, we aim to treat TB patients at home via family direct observation therapy
(F-DOT). As a part of this unique programme, we provide usually monthly medical check-ups, but also medication, food and psychological support, that helps children and their families to endure the treatment. MSF approach in Tajikistan intends to show that the comprehensive TB care model is feasible. This includes patient follow-up, active testing for new patients, laboratory diagnosis, individualised treatment and psychosocial support (including play therapy).
