MSF working with local groups in Ukraine

MSF has been working in Kharkiv city and oblast in northeastern Ukraine since late March 2022. Initially teams were running mobile clinics in the metro stations where people were taking shelter from shelling and bombing. MSF was present in all 30 metro stations in Kharkiv with the exception of two that were militarized. Since the authorities announced that everyone had to leave the metro stations so trains could start running again in late May, MSF teams have been conducting medical and mental health mobile clinics in areas of Kharkiv city and oblast affected by the conflict and working with local volunteer groups and civil society organizations to distribute food boxes and hygiene kits to people throughout the area. The team also runs a medical and mental health hotline and works with volunteer driver networks to deliver medications to people’s homes. In late June, shelling inside the city and in areas north of the city intensified again. Despite the considerable challenges of trying to arrange and execute mobile clinics, the teams were able to continue providing services to many communities and to continue distributing aid through volunteer networks.
