MSF warns of increase in deaths in Soyapango and San Salvador and health system collapse

In the five communities where we provide primary health care in Soyapango and San Salvador, community leaders indicate that more than 50 people have died -suspected covid-19 or for decompensations from chronic diseases- in their homes since the declaration of the emergency. Local authorities have reported that on some occasions, the bodies of the dead remain in their homes for up to 24 hours without the presence of the relevant authorities. MSF ambulance service is also registering an increase in deaths of patients at home prior to the arrival of the ambulance.
