Tuberculosis is the world’s deadliest infectious disease and kills 1.4 million people a year. While the world mobilizes against the COVID-19 pandemic, governments must remember not to leave behind people affected by TB.

The latest diagnostic tests can rapidly diagnose TB. Newer medicines can more effectively cure TB. Yet people are still dying from a disease that should have been eliminated decades ago.

The 2020 Step Up for TB report by Médecins Sans Frontières and the Stop TB Partnership surveys 37 countries and finds that many countries are using outdated and ineffective policies, practices and tools for diagnosing and treating TB. The good news is several countries are adopting policies and the latest medical tools to stop TB deaths.
