Due to attacks by the Russian Armed Forces on the civilian energy infrastructure in Ukraine, the situation with power outages in the Kyiv region remains severe. Many residents currently receive just two hours of electricity per day in their homes. Hospitals and medical facilities are relying on backup generators and inverters to ensure electricity to power medical equipment, lighting, water and heating . . Medical institutions and and care homes for the most vulnerable members of the population, which rely on electricity to provide ongoing care and treatment, are struggling under these conditions.
Today, Médecins Sans Frontières made a donation of essential items to help keep patients warm at the Borodianskyi Psycho-neurological care facility. The facility accommodates more than 400 patients who need continuous care and treatment. Items donated to the care facility included an energy storage system with backup batteries, five 500-litre containers for storing water and food, 25 rechargeable flashlights, and 150 heated blankets powered by portable power banks. These items are intended to ease the daily challenges faced by a medical facility experiencing long-term, frequent power and water outages.
MSF continues to support hospitals and medical facilities across Ukraine to alleviate the suffering of the most vulnerable, ensuring patients receive the care they urgently need despite ongoing infrastructure challenges.
