HIV Report Out Of Focus

International context: unanimous call for rapid scale up
Repeated calls by all main HIV actors in favor of a drastic acceleration of the fight against HIV/Aids:
UNAIDS : the world has five years to get the epidemic under control by reaching 90-90-90 by 2020 (90% PLHIV know their status, 90% of them initiated on treatment, 90% of them virally suppressed). If not, the epidemic will have rebounded by 2030 and the considerable investments made in the past 15 years will be lost: it’s a “pay now or pay forever” logic.
WHO: new guidelines recommending immediate treatment for all upon diagnostic
Most countries echo the 90-90-90 mantra and many should soon announce test & treat; Pepfar has echoed those calls and pledged accelerated support; the SDG pledge the “end of Aids” by 2030.
West and Central African countries are in need of a quick and drastic catch up plan
WCA has 6% of the world population, but 17.9% of the people living with HIV
It accounts for 27% of all Aids-related deaths, 21% of all new infections, and 45% of all children born HIV+
This is explained by a low coverage of ARVs. Only one in four adult are on treatment. There are 5 million people in this region alone that need to be started on ARVs, which represents 1/3 of UNAIDS target to getting 15 more new people on ARV by 2020 (which mean doubling the number of people on ART within less than five years)
