CAR: Bambari Community Champions Unity and Support for HIV-Positive Individuals
In the midst of societal stigmatization faced by individuals living with HIV, the Bambari Community Antiretroviral Treatment Groups (CAG) stand out as a beacon of unity and support. Fulgence Manehou, the Focal Point of the CAG, appreciates the community's focus on mutual support. Led by Martine Kembi, the CAG ensures consistent treatment for members every six months, eliminating the need for hiding due to stigma.
Manehou highlights the organized approach that prevents treatment interruptions, allowing individuals to lead normal lives, including travel, with the assurance of continued medical care upon their return. Patients say that they do not feel alone – underscoring the collective strength of the Bambari CAG. Beyond the administration of treatment, these groups have established a supportive community that empowers individuals to live openly and confidently with HIV, breaking the chains of societal judgment.
