March update - MSF activities in Cox's Bazar

As of 28 February, MSF has treated more than 4,690 people for diphtheria in the Cox’s Bazar district, most of them aged between five and 14 years. During the peak of the outbreak, MSF ran three dedicated health facilities. At Rubber Garden, which used to be a transit centre for new arrivals, MSF set up a new diphtheria treatment centre. An MSF team is responsible for tracing patients 30 days from the date of admission to ensure medical care for post-diphtheria complications is carried out. Any suspected person who reports having symptoms indicative of post-diphtheria complications or other illness is referred to MSF health facilities for a clinical assessment. Appropriate treatment is then given or referrals to other health care providers who offer palliative or rehabilitative services are made when necessary.
